Zuzu, a 2-year-old German Shepard mix, made headlines in November 2016 when her owners did the unthinkable.

After Zuzu’s father died, she fell into a state of depression, whining and crying all the time. Her owners were unhappy with her mood change, so when Zuzu ended up at a shelter after jumping into a neighbor’s yard, her owners left her there.

One day, shelter staff noticed that Zuzu was more excited than they’d ever seen her. They followed her gaze to find that her previous owners had come to the shelter. Shelter staff assumed they were there to take Zuzu back home, but they weren’t — they wanted to adopt a new dog.

Everyone was shocked, and when they left with a new dog, Zuzu was still stuck at the shelter, abandoned once again by the people she loved.

Luckily, Zuzu’s story blew up, and the shelter immediately had tons of inquiries about her. The poor dog who was heartbroken after her father’s death finally has a new home. She even has a new dog friend.

Russ and Judith Gallo saw the video of Zuzu and immediately fell in love. They knew they needed to do something to help her, and since one of their dogs had just passed away, they thought it was the perfect time to add another four-legged friend to their family.

Their other dog, Dodger, was also in search of a new best friend. Now Zuzu is a happy, playful dog who is finally in the right home.
