No doubt, contouring is 2015’s biggest beauty buzzword. But it’s actually a trick that makeup artists have been using forever.

Contouring is a technique used by makeup artists to make a person’s bone structure look especially sculpted and, in turn, look slimmer. The process of color-shading techniques and no fewer than three different foundation shades is used the achieve the look. While it may take some time, it’s so worth it in the end. Not to mention, this makeup stays all day and all night if you prime first.

In the video below, makeup expert Chloe Morello demonstrates how to achieve the perfect contour for your face and the end result is gorgeous. If the idea of contouring is scary to you, she breaks it down in a simple way that shows you a quick and easy to achieve the gorgeous look that has long been a secret reserved for supermodels and celebrities and other professional makeup artists like Nikkietutorials.

By adding other shades of makeup, along with a good highlight, contouring adds dimension to your face to give additional depth. In the video, she applies the contouring shade about an inch above the temples of the forehead, just below the hollows of the cheeks towards the mouth, and along the jawline. She’ll show you the correct way to buff and blend the colors to look flawless. Remember the final look should be detectable, but subtle.
