Leslie Kahn was enjoying a relaxing day in her above-ground pool when the pool ladder suddenly broke and left her stranded in the water.
“I had one foot on it, and when I put the other foot on it, it went down and I cracked my knee,” Leslie said about the ladder.
Leslie tried to climb out but couldn’t pull herself out of the pool. “I don’t have the agility or the upper body strength that I used to,” she said. “I was thinking, ‘I might be here a while!’”
The woman had not brought her phone out to try and call for help but she did have her iPad, which was just out of reach on a lounge chair.
“I grabbed the pole, hooked the leg of the chair, dragged it over and got online.”
What Leslie did next was log into her Facebook account and post in a community group asking for help. “My pool ladder broke while I was trying to get out of the pool,” she wrote. “Home alone, phone inside.”
Luckily, Leslie has an amazing community filled with people who were more than happy to immediately rush to her aid! “Only a few minutes to start getting responses,” she said.
But when people got there, it wasn’t as easy as they thought to get her out. They tried fixing the ladder but it was a bust. Then they tried putting a chair in the water and when that didn’t work, one neighbor found a ladder on the side of her house attempted to use that. It worked, and Leslie was able to climb out of her pool.
