Thanks to smartphones and social media, we now have the ability to hold people more accountable for their actions and behaviors while out in public.

The internet is being flooded with disturbing encounters that have taken place during the pandemic.

The following incident seems to combine two of the most important issues taking place in this country right now: racism and the debate surrounding face masks to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Sydney Waters, a mother of three, was near the checkout line at a Home Depot in Illinois. Sydney says she spotted a middle-aged woman who was at one point wearing her face mask but later removed her mask in order to ask an employee to remind other customers to wear their masks.

Sydney grew uncomfortable watching the woman speak to the staff member without a mask, so she spoke up. She said she saw the woman’s demeanor change “like a switch flipped.”

It was clear to her that “no one was going to tell her what to do.” Sydney kept filming as the woman declared, “I believe in white power.”

That’s when the verbal disagreement turned into a physical altercation.

Sydney hit record on her phone and posted the video to Facebook … and after police saw the footage, they charged the woman with battery and disorderly conduct.
