Clayton Gardner, a singer-songwriter from Texas, loves engaging with his audience. But with the pandemic, he’s had to stay vigilant about social distancing even during his performances.
Clayton was recently onstage performing a small acoustic set while livestreaming it on Facebook. There was at least a 20- to 30-foot distance between him and the front row, but there was no security.
About 15 minutes into his set, an unnamed woman interrupted him by crashing the stage and walking up right behind him.
She leaned in closely and appeared to purposely cough on a very surprised and disturbed Clayton.
On Facebook, the musician explained how shocked and defenseless he felt in that moment, sitting there holding his guitar while the audience sat there in disbelief.
Once his video went viral, Clayton returned to social media to quell the viewers’ anger toward the coughing woman.
Clayton posted an update to Facebook after having forgiven her once she reached out to him to apologize.
