Wendy Williams had a scarier Halloween than she’d bargained for when she fainted in the middle of filming the October 31, 2017, episode of The Wendy Williams Show.
The talk show host had dressed up as the Statue of Liberty for this year’s annual Halloween episode. According to People, the costume was designed by Ceasar Gallindo. The elaborate getup was complete with a green wig, sparkling crown, green heels, and a long-sleeved, sequin-covered dress.
The 53-year-old was preparing to kick off the episode’s “How You Doin’ Halloween Costume Contest” when she began to mumble her words. Looking frightened, she trailed off, took a few steps back, and then dropped to the floor. This happened about 48 minutes into the episode.
You can hear the equally scared and uncertain audience gasping and screaming in horror in the background as they witnessed the unexpected moment.
The show picked back up several minutes later, and a revived Wendy explained to her shocked audience what happened to her.
“That was not a stunt. I’m overheated in my costume and I did pass out. But you know what, I’m a champ, and I’m back!” she said. Wendy later joked about whether she was passed out for long when the segment came to an end.
A representative for Wendy further clarified the situation in a statement to People: “Wendy is feeling much better. She overheated because of her heavy costume, makeup, and lights. She was able to finish the show in true Wendy spirit. She will address the incident on tomorrow’s show.”
