In 2014, a photographer named Ian Christmann was hired to take photos at Erick and Lauren’s outdoor wedding in Stockton, New Jersey. He had no idea his photos would go viral for such an incredible reason.
During the reception dinner, Ian noticed a herd of about 40 deer gathering at the edge of the forest. Inspired by the magical sight, Christmann interrupted Erick and Lauren and asked if they would follow him into the woods to try and snag a few impromptu shots. The couple agreed.
Quietly and hesitantly, Erick and Lauren walked up as close as they could to the deer, then turned to pose for Ian’s camera. Just as Christmann hit the flash button, the entire herd looked up at the camera in unison. The awesome photobomb served as an utterly beautiful and surreal backdrop.
The next day, Christmann posted one of the photos from his “Deerly Beloved” series to Facebook. They quickly went viral, and you’re about to see why…
During a sunset dinner following their ceremony, Erick and Lauren were interrupted by their wedding photographer, Ian Christmann. He convinced the bride and groom to follow him into the woods.
Erick and Lauren were stunned to find a herd of 40 deer that had been watching the dinner party from the trees. Ian came up with the brilliant idea to turn this beautiful scene into an impromptu photo shoot.
Ian captured a few gorgeous shots as he led the bride and groom towards the curious herd.
Many people asked Ian if he photoshopped the deer into the photos, to which he quickly rejected. The photos are 100% authentic, and Erick and Lauren were grateful to have hired such a creative and spontaenous photographer.
It just so happened that these wild deer emerged from the woods to enjoy their evening meal — just as the wedding party sat down to enjoy their own dinner. It was a truly serendipitous moment!
