This Mom Has Had Enough: It’s Time We Stop Saying ‘Boys Will Be Boys’

by Giovanna Boldrini
Giovanna was born in Rome, Italy and currently resides in South Salem, New York. In her free time, she likes to cook with her children and grandchildren.

It’s a phrase that has been bandied about for years: “Boys will be boys.” Somehow it’s become a catchall explanation for bad language and general bad behavior, and one mom has quite simply had enough.

In the second episode of The Truth Bomb Mom with Kristina Kuzmic, Kuzmic goes to town on the phrase and the very idea that men are excused for certain behavior simply because of their gender.

“In my opinion, ‘Boys will be boys’ is the biggest insult to men because ‘Boys will be boys’ implies that they can’t help it,” she says.

“As a mother who is trying her hardest to raise two decent men, the whole guy talk excuse really ticks me off, because no my sons were not born derogatory, sexist pigs. What my sons were born with is a brain, and a heart, and a choice, and power, and hopefully a lot of common sense to know how to treat a fellow human being, male or female, appropriately and respectfully, even in private.”

Bottom line, according to Kuzmic: “Words matter, and not all jokes are OK.”‘

According to Kuzmic it’s not just men that are on the hook, it’s parents that let certain behavior slide, too.
