With winter comes a lot of water, snow, and slush. And there’s nothing worse than trudging through the winter snow with wet feet and socks.

After decades of coming home in soggy feet, I recently discovered that there’s actually a simple process to make shoes water-resistant. All it takes is five minutes and an ordinary household candle!

Instead of rushing to the store and forking over some serious cash for a new pair of heavy-duty water-resistant shoes, you can do this simple technique right in the comfort of your own home.

You simply rub a candle all over your shoes, so its entirely covered in wax.

Then, heat the wax with a hair dryer. This thin layer of wax repels the water from your shoes. At first, I thought this sounded crazy, but after I tried it myself, I realized it’s pure genius. This might be one of my favorite life hacks.

Who knew that keeping your feet dry and comfortable in wet conditions could be as simple as rubbing your shoe with candle wax! See how easy it is done in the video below.
