Dash Cam Catches Moment Pig Makes Daring Leap From Moving Truck Bound For The Slaughterhouse

Becca is a writer and aspirational dog owner living in NYC.

In the words of Charlotte in Charlotte’s Web, that’s “some pig!”

A hefty porker, now named Wally, made a daring escape on a high-speed interstate in a last-ditch bid to avoid the slaughterhouse.

The pig was en route to his fate at a slaughter house in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. Like most pigs, he was reared to a certain size and then sold to be butchered for food.

He was packed into an 18-wheeler full of livestock, destined to end up on someone’s plate.

Instead, Wally took inspiration from animals like the brave goat who broke free from a Queens butcher and ended up rescued by the NYPD.

Somewhere on the I-90, Wally took a mad leap for freedom and saved his own life in the process. The substantial animal made it off the truck with perhaps twenty minutes to spare.

Scroll through below to see Wally’s daring escape, and learn what he’s up to, now that he’s a free pig.

World, meet Wally. This brave young pig was destined for the slaughterhouse back in March of 2017.

But Wally is a fighter, and he now lives happily at the SoulSpace Farm Sanctuary in Wisconsin.

According to SoulSpace, this is how Wally’s powerful story begins:

Two weeks ago, 250 lb, 9 month old Wally was on a truck headed for slaughter.

Just 3 miles from the Sioux Falls slaughter house, Wally decided to save his own life.

The whole escape was captured on dash cam by a driver traveling on the I-90.

The driver was a few car lengths behind the big tractor trailer when it became clear that the gate of the truck was coming loose on one side

You can see the gap above, but it’s harder to see Wally, sticking his snout out and questing for freedom.

SoulSpace continues:

According to the witness that was driving behind the truck at 70 mph on I-90, Wally fought like hell to get the gate up at the rear of the truck.

On his fourth or fifth attempt, he succeeded and squeezed his body out from under the gate.

Wally looked over the edge, and Wally JUMPED.

The driver didn’t even notice his missing passenger. Instead, the truck simply drove off into the distance, leaving Wally a free man. You can see him there in the middle

SoulSpace writes:

Wally hit the pavement and went head over butt three times.

Wally stood up, shook his head out, and headed for the median.

He was rescued by the Sioux Falls Humane Society a few hours later.

Here, you can see the porcine fugitive meandering across the interstate to settle down on the median strip.

It’s fortunate that there weren’t many cars on the high-speed road. The witness behind the truck slowed down when the drama began and presumably called the humane society to help Wally out.

After all of that exhaustion and trauma, Wally deserved an awesome space to call home, and he finally got it.

He fetched up at the SoulSpace Farm Sanctuary in Wisconsin, where he lives harmoniously with lots of other livestock buddies.

Talk about a happily ever after!

Today, Wally lives a happy pastoral existence.

He spends his days hanging out with visitors to the sanctuary, and is known for his affectionate and mischievous personality!

This cutie pie is living the best possible life.
