Residents of New York City’s Upper West Side are a little concerned by the regular sight of a group of dogs who seem to have been abandoned in the street.
The dogs, of all breeds and sizes, have been seen tied to a metal pipe several times. According to eyewitnesses, who say this is a daily occurrence, the dogs never appear to be anxious or in distress, leading them to believe that a dog walker is the one who leaves them unattended and unsupervised in the street. Some speculate that he or she is getting another dog, leaving the pack behind.
Still, residents of the neighborhood are concerned, and those who are pet owners say that they wouldn’t want their dogs to be recklessly left in the street, even if they’re tethered. One man told CBS2 that it doesn’t bother him that much generally, but he wouldn’t want that for his two pups.
Dog walker Nev Patel outlines exactly why he would never do what this suspected dog walker did. He said, “Either a dog can get stolen, or there may be a fight. Someone may get bit — things can happen at any given moment.”
He added that the sheer size of the group may be too big for just one person.
“It’s almost like leaving your child outside in their stroller while you run inside to go grab a carton of milk,” he said. “It’s just not something you can do.”
Nev, like many others in the neighborhood, just hopes that the owners of these dogs know what’s going on.
