Karina Irby noticed something strange on her Instagram feed: there were tons of young women showing off their bodies, but the photos were all edited.

While Karina does use her Instagram to flaunt her fit physique, she isn’t afraid to show off things that some would consider “unflattering,” like cellulite or stretch marks.

To show how easy it is to fake the “perfect body” (and how easy it is to spot those photo-editing tricks), Karina posted a “before” and “after” image of herself in a bikini.

The problem with edited photos is that they give young people unrealistic beauty standards that cannot be achieved without photo manipulation. Imagine beating yourself up because you can’t get the perfect Instagram body, when it was all an illusion in the first place.

Karina shows that it’s somewhat irresponsible to post doctored photos when there are impressionable people who could get the wrong idea.

See her “before” and “after” pictures below.

Karina Irby is a fitness guru and bikini designer. The 27-year-old from Australia shared a viral photo of her body to show how easy it is to fake an idealized body type.

Karina began lifting and eating healthily in 2013, causing her once slim physique to bulk up to her personal preference.

While she posts images of herself on social media as fitness inspiration, she has made it a point to show herself with warts and all.

Karina wrote on Instagram:

Every morning I wake up and scroll though my personal Instagram feed and spy “Insta Girls” posting unrealistic images of themselves. The girls I follow that portray these images have big followings, often with hundreds of thousands of young girls looking up to them as role models.

The truth is these girls don’t looks like this. They look like you, like everyone. I have gone ahead and copied the classic “Insta Girl Edit” in my second image and listed below is what I have done to it💅🏽
Full body skin smooth
Enlarged my booty
Sucked in my tummy
Sucked in my back
Thinned out my arms
Thinned out my quads
Made my neck a tad skinnier
Got ride [sic] of my scars and cellulite
Made my breast rounder
Lifted my booty
After all these little tweaks, can you notice how my horizon is warped?

So many girls are so into how their Insta image is going to be portrayed that they don’t even notice they have warped the background?!

Ladies, I’m not here to play mean girl towards others. I simply want to #inspire you to love yourself and stop comparing yourselves to unrealistic images online.

Look out for the signs of the “Insta Girl Edit” and don’t take social media too seriously. Let’s get real.

What do you think of Karina’s reality check?
