Vicky Salzone made a crippling discovery as she was taking down her Christmas decorations: She looked at her hands and realized that her three wedding rings had vanished from her fingers.
“I had no recollection of taking them off,” she explains in a video posted on January 17, 2017. “It was horrible because I knew that they were irreplaceable.”
Her husband, Joe Salzone, had a small hunch about where the rings could have gone. He made a call to their local dump, the Babylon Town Recycling Center.
Luckily, employees informed Joe that they located the exact truck assigned to their neighborhood. They then told him to come to the dump immediately.
One landfill worker named Ed Wiggins asked, “What’s the odds of us really doing this two times in a row?” It was clear that the loss of wedding rings at this exact dump was not an isolated incident.
In fact, the same thing had happened just two months previously when a woman named Colleen Dyckman accidentally threw away her own diamond rings, which she recovered with the help of the dedicated sanitation workers.
Would Vicky and Joe have the same destiny as Colleen?
Well, despite this all happening on Friday the 13th, Vicky and Joe were nothing short of lucky. Joe went to the dump to look for Vicky’s rings alongside the sanitation workers and was successful in retrieving it from the heaps of trash.
Ed stated, “It wasn’t the monetary value. You could tell with them. They were just sincerely… They wanted the rings that were blessed by the priest that married them.”
