Extremely Rare 1-2-3 Mom Has A Son And Then Twins And Then Triplets

Three years after Nia gave birth to her son, Shai, she was shocked to learn that she was pregnant with twins.

Nia gave birth to identical twin boys Riley and Alexander. Now, two years later, she’s about to have triplets.

One news outlet has taken to calling her “the 1-2-3 mom.”

Nia says she was completely in shock when she found out she was having multiples for a second time. When she went for her ultrasound, the nurse asked if multiples were common in her family, so Nia thought she might be having twins again. But then she saw the sonogram, and listened as the nurse said “there’s three: Baby A, Baby B, Baby C.”

Having one baby, followed by twins, followed by triplets, is almost unheard of. OB-GYN Dr. Rami Tabbarah says he has only seen one other case of this, and he’s been a doctor for 10 years. He says this is extremely rare. “We’re talking less than 1 in 1,000 [births],” he said.

Nia and her husband Robert swear that they haven’t taken any fertility drugs. Multiples do run in both their families, though, and Nia says she hyper ovulates.
