Sometimes Our Kids Get In The Way Of Our Social Life — And That’s OK

Part of being a mother is knowing that sometimes your kids will do crazy, unexpected things. Even the most type A moms can’t anticipate and control everything their children will do.

At the end of the day, being a mom is about going with the flow and loving your kids anyway.

In the latest installment of Truth Bomb Mom, Kristina Kuzmic is getting ready for her first kid-free night out in a while, only to have her plans ruined by a toiled clogged by toys, stuffed animals, and — somehow — even the neighbor’s dog!

Luckily, Kristina is used to her job as a mother thwarting her social plans — after all, it is a 24/7 gig — but she’s sick of people making her feel guilty for being late or even having to cancel.

“Though being late or canceling is considered rude, you know what else is considered rude?” Kristina asks. “Making a stressed-out, busy mom feel guilty for taking care of business. And motherhood is a full-time business.”

Sometimes, our kids get in the way of our plans, but instead of guilting each other for having to reschedule, Kristina is encouraging moms to support one another and be sympathetic.

“Real friends are going to understand,” says Kristina. “They’re not going to hold it against you when you have to tend to the chaos of motherhood. Real friends are going to ask, ‘How can I help?'”

The next time your friend calls with a kid emergency, remember Kristina’s advice. And instead of getting annoyed, ask what you can do to make their life easier.
