A man survived a dangerous accident with an out-of-control car, and it’s all thanks to an ordinary tree.

According to KSWB San Diego, the accident happened on the morning of February 23, 2018.

Eduardo Valdez was working on installing lights onto a large tree located in the parking lot of a San Diego shopping area.

He was obviously standing very close to it while he worked. Luckily, he was working on the opposite side of the tree when a vehicle swerved toward it.

“I was just working right here in this area when the car lost control and came straight toward the tree,” Eduardo told KSWB. A white SUV careened straight for Eduardo after the driver lost control.

“I was working behind the tree, so it was blocking me,” Eduardo recalled. “It hit the tree and stopped on the tree. I’m lucky that I’m alive.”

In the video below, you can see the aftermath of the crash, with scattered debris littering the area.

Yet Eduardo remained unharmed and able to celebrate an upcoming milestone. “Tomorrow is my birthday. One day more, and I’m not 42!” he said, expressing his gratitude for his life.

Police told KSWB that the driver of the SUV suffered no injuries, but another person went to the hospital with minor wounds.
