Not all heroes wear capes!
An unnamed stranger sprang into action to save an elderly woman whose car was hanging off the edge of a parking structure, just inches away from plummeting several stories down.
The accident occurred in Santa Monica, California, coincidentally right across the street from the police station. A woman in her 60s slammed on her accelerator instead of the brakes and plowed her four-door vehicle directly over the ledge.
Thankfully, the safety cables strung around the perimeter kept the woman and her vehicle from flying straight into the air, but the car was still teetering and left the woman trapped in the driver’s seat. That’s when our hero — who left the scene immediately afterward to avoid any publicity — ran up and helped her get out of the vehicle. It was a complicated maneuver. Witnesses say that the woman couldn’t just step out; she had to clear a few feet of open space to get back to safety. And by “open space,” we mean a probably lethal fall to the sidewalk below.
But all’s well that ends well: The driver was understandably shaken up, but otherwise fine. The fire department arrived and moved the still-precarious vehicle back to safety. And our mysterious hero disappeared into the sunset.
