When I hear the word “tornado,” I assure you that “romance” is not what immediately comes to mind.

But that’s not true for Alex Bartholomew, who certainly thinks tornados are an occasion for wedding proposals!

Alex is a storm chaser from Texas. With the help of his buddy Jason Cooley, he had the bright idea to propose to his girlfriend Britney Fox Cayton while out on a “routine storm chase.”

“I really wanted to combine my two greatest loves,” Alex explained. He told Britney they were merely going to chase a couple of tornados that day. Eventually, though, the couple ended up on the side of the road.

Jason was ready nearby with his camera to snap the million dollar shot. Meanwhile, friends Stephen Jones and Alec Scholten recorded the entire scene.

With a bit of luck, timing, and fate, Alex was able to get down on one knee in front of Britney and pop the question with a real-live tornado spinning just behind them!

“I had no idea, it was complete shock,” Britney later told Inside Edition. “I just nodded because I couldn’t [get] words out, I was tearing up so bad.”

Luckily, the couple was at a safe enough distance that they were never in harm of being in the tornado’s path.

Jason explained how beautiful it all turned out: “I was worried the tornado was going to disappear. The tornado waited for us. The scene was perfect.”
