Dylan Dreyer is getting ready to welcome another baby! The Today anchor has confirmed to People that she’s expecting her second child with husband Brian Fichera.
The couple are already parents to 2½-year-old Calvin Bradley. Dylan bravely came forward earlier this year to discuss her struggles with secondary infertility.
Her discussion of the sensitive topic came at a delicate time for the Today family. The morning show seemed to be in the midst of a baby boom. Anchor Hoda Kotb had just adopted her second child, Hope Catherine. A few weeks later, Jenna Bush Hager announced that she was expecting her third child.
On the same day as Jenna’s announcement, Dylan planned to discuss her struggles to conceive a second child. Jenna offered to hold off on sharing her own news, but Dylan insisted there was no need. Now the two ladies will get to enjoy being pregnant at the same time!
Today show meteorologist Dylan Dreyer is thrilled to be expecting her second child. She revealed the news to her elated coanchors this week and shared more with People in an exclusive sit-down interview.
Dylan and husband Brian Fichera are already parents to 2½-year-old son Calvin Bradley. The newest member of their family is expected to join them in January. “This is the best secret we could have possibly been keeping,” Dylan told People.
Dylan recently opened up about the struggles they’ve faced on the road to conceiving a second child. In April, she revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage during the winter. Prior to her miscarriage, she struggled to conceive for six months.
Dylan planned to open up about her secondary infertility struggles on April 22 as part of Today’s third hour. She wasn’t aware that coanchor Jenna Bush Hager would be announcing her pregnancy the same day.
When both women realized what was happening, Jenna offered to hold off on her announcement. Dylan insisted that she go ahead with it. “Your joy doesn’t add to my sadness,” Dylan explained to Jenna in a truly touching moment between the women.
Dylan also revealed that she had undergone surgery to remove scar tissue that had developed following the cesarean section she had to deliver Calvin. She hoped that it would help improve her chances of conceiving naturally.
What Dylan didn’t know at the time was that she was already pregnant. She was preparing to start IVF. “I had no clue and was taking all the classes to learn about the injections, how to mix the medications, all of it,” Dylan explained.
Dylan never imagined she was already expecting.
“Not to mention all the paperwork and consent forms and notarized forms I’d had to go and fill out,” she added. “So clearly, I had no idea this was even possible! I was assuming I’d be starting IVF around the beginning of May.”
She was waiting for some more instructions from her doctor when she learned the exciting news. She explained: “I was just waiting for the phone call from Dr. Reichman, to tell me how much of each drug to use. Instead, when he called, he said, ‘Well, you can’t start IVF because you’re already pregnant!’ We were in complete shock. We couldn’t believe it!”
Dylan is now in her second trimester. She’s happy to report that everything has gone smoothly thus far. “He continues to grow healthy and strong each day and yes, it’s another little boy, which we are all so excited about,” she told People.
Calvin is also excited to be welcoming a little brother. “He sort of understands what’s going on but when you ask him about the baby, he says he wants to pet it. So we’ll see!” Dylan laughed.
Dylan is so thankful to her medical team, but she also believes God had a hand in it. “I do thank God for [Dr. David Reichman of the Cornell Center for Reproductive Medicine] because I know the surgery he did, to clear out all the scarring from my previous [cesarean] section, made a huge difference,” she explained. “But I also think my prayers were answered.”
One person did figure out Dylan’s big news before her reveal. It was Al Roker, who also correctly guessed her first pregnancy. “He did figure it out beforehand,” she explained. “It’s funny because he was the first to know when I was pregnant with Calvin, too. He said to me, ‘I just have an inkling.'”
Dylan’s bravery in opening up about her struggles helped a lot of people who experienced the same thing. Now she’s also providing those same people with hope. Congratulations to Dylan, Brian, and Calvin on their upcoming arrival!
