Nashville Ranch Home Looks Totally Ordinary, But Inside It’s A Groovy 1970s Time Warp

Have you ever walked into a room and wondered whether you’ve been transported by a time machine?

That’s how we felt when Nashville-based artist Heidi Hyatt emailed us amazing photos of her even more amazing home.

Sure, it can be easy to give your home, or any room in your home, a vintage feel. Just add some pastel kitchen items, or hang a strategically placed antique frame. But Heidi’s version brings the idea of a vintage feel to another level.

Heidi likes to transport herself and her guests back a few decades when they step into her home.

The ‘Time Warp’ house has been a labor of love for Heidi, who has spent a lot of time making her home perfect, collecting items that fit just right from thrift stores and other unlikely places.

From the outside, the time-warp house looks like any other ranch house from the ’70s, but just wait until you see the inside!

Heidi Hyatt was a teen and young adult in the ’70s, so that era is full of special memories for her.

She has always loved vintage design, and thought that collecting mid-century furnishings was a great way to celebrate her interest in retro interiors and her own formative years.

Heidi shares with LittleThings:

Every room is complete with its own themed vintage decor. It’s been such a delightful project for me, as a visual artist who’s been “thrift shopping” since I was 16 years old.

I’d say it’s the culmination of my life’s work all in one “piece.” I’ve dreamed of creating a time warp home for ages. I’ve never owned a shop or done anything commercial with my finds, but I have collected so many cool things over the years.

I’ve been in every kind of situation: from Grandma’s attic to junk shops, Goodwills to dumpster diving to even rummaging an old house that was getting torn down in search of my beauties.

I also hand-created the retro countertops and “hairpin” legs for a close-to-authentic refitting of this cool house that we are now offering as a short-term rental in this newly booming tourist trend for Nashville.

I love finding and fixing curious old things, so this house totally catalogues my passions and lets me share that with our guests, who have been great.

Having graduated from high school in 1973, this place is a great big happy memory for me… Plus, I don’t really think of myself being my actual age yet — ha!

It’s all just for fun, and I had so much — recollecting all of the objects that intrigued me as a child and pulling those things together for this decor.

The visuals of my youth have deeply influenced me as an artist, all my life. I hope you enjoy the house and my work… I know lots of people get a thrill when they walk in the first time, pulling up fond memories for themselves, too!
