Tim McGraw is in the best shape of his life, and he credits his wife with getting him on the right track.
The country singer opens up about his fitness journey in his new book, Grit & Grace: Train the Mind, Train the Body, Own Your Life.
In the book, Tim candidly reveals that wife Faith Hill presented him with an ultimatum. She told her husband that he had to choose between his hard-partying rock star lifestyle and his family. He talked to Hoda Kotb on Today about how that decision shook him.
“When things happen and you succeed beyond your wildest dreams and you’re playing all these great shows and, you know, the party’s going on,” Tim explained.
“Then you’re married and you have kids. And all the sudden your wife looks at you and says, ‘You know, you’re getting a little overboard and you need to make some decisions.’ It makes a big impact on you.”
Another blow came from a comment from his oldest daughter, Gracie. “I made a movie and we went to the theater during the holiday season. I wasn’t even thinking about the trailer of my movie, we were just going to see a holiday movie, and sure enough, the first thing that pops up on the screen is the movie I’d done,” Tim recalled. “My face is the first thing that came on a 100-foot screen and it was pretty swollen at that time. My daughter looked at me and she said, ‘Jeez, Dad, you need to do something.’ And that’s sort of a gut shot, right?”
Thankfully, Tim took the words of his loved ones to heart. Now, he’s ready to help others on the path to health and happiness.
