Catherine Ke, an 18-year-old from St. Louis, was recently driving to her boyfriend’s house after heavy rainfall when she headed straight into a flash flood — and, in turn, a nightmare come true.

Catherine’s car engine suddenly turned off, and she decided to hit record on her phone and share whatever she was about to capture on TikTok.

As the strong currents ripped beneath her, the terrified teen started hydroplaning. She instinctively started to jump out of the car before it filled up with water.

Within seconds, Catherine found herself holding onto a tree for dear life. She realized quickly that this was a life-or-death situation, and any of her now-lost possessions could be replaced.

Multiple attempts to rescue Catherine were unsuccessful. It’s amazing she survived and was able to post the following footage to TikTok.

Her story is helping to spread awareness about the dangers of flash flooding — and what to do if you should ever find yourself in a situation like this.
