Kayla Rose, 17, took her dog for a walk around the neighborhood in Irvington, New Jersey. It was about 7 o’clock in the morning when she and her pup, Milkshake, heard a strange scratching sound coming from somewhere outside.
The sounds continued until the freaked-out high school student realized the scratching was coming from the trunk of a Nissan Altima parked along the street.
As Kayla approached the back of the car, she was hit with a wave of anxiety and fear. She had no idea what she was about to discover.
“Hello?” she called out reluctantly.
A male voice started screaming back to her: “Hello! Help me, help me!” he begged.
And with that, Kayla sprinted toward her neighbor’s house for help, then went running to tell her mom what she’d found. “She said it looked like she was in a horror movie,” her mom told the New York Post.
The neighbor called 911, and police were on their way.
The man inside the trunk was either in his late teens or early 20s. He had bruises and scratches all over his head and face. His wrists were bound with rope. Perhaps the most frightening thing was the fact that it was below freezing that day, and it was only a matter of time before hypothermia would have set in.
That’s when a horrifying story began to emerge. Thank God Kayla was at the right place at the right time, and she acted on her instincts.
