Though the holidays are right around the corner, many teens and young men and women have one thing on their minds before they get to be with family: finals.
Students across the country are in the midst of preparing for or taking their final exams over the next few days to round out the semester. Of course, they’re preparing as best they can for the tests, but some subjects are more challenging than others.
At St. Edward High School, students in Mr. Corcoran’s calculus class are dreading taking his final exam.
But one of their peers came up with a brilliant idea. Brandon Riley, a senior, managed to strike a deal. He asked the teacher if he could cancel the exam altogether if his post about the deal on Twitter got a certain number of retweets. Mr. Concoran didn’t accept this offer and proposed a different deal. For every 500 retweets that the post got, he would give each member of the class a bonus point on the exam.
Brandon posted photos of the signed deal and called for strangers’ help. His strategy worked: in just 24 hours, he received more than 35,000 retweets, including one from WWE wrestler and St. Ed’s graduate Dolph Ziggler, who has more than 2 million followers.
If you do the math, Brandon earned every one of his classmates 70 bonus points on the final exam!
