Allie Blake recently went to the mall on a blisteringly hot June day in Sacramento. Everything was going fine, until Allie claims security at the Arden Fair Mall approached her to present her with an unexpected ultimatum: either cover up her outfit, or leave the mall at once.

Allie was horrified, and took to Facebook to share her disappointing experience. In a post which has since been deleted, Allie said security officers told her that she was “violating rule number one of the dress code” and her outfit was “not appropriate for children to see.”

Since it was 100 degrees outside that day, Allie went the mall in a white tank top and black shorts.

“Women’s bodies need to stop being sexualized and men cannot tell us what we can and cannot wear!” Allie wrote on Facebook, which garnered more than 1,000 shares of support.

When Allie’s story went viral, a spokesperson for the Arden Fair Mall told local news that her shorts were simply too short. “You were able to see something,” she said.

The mall defines “improper attire” as wearing pants in a manner that exposes undergarments or excessive skin.
