Alex Woodard was driving home as she does every single day. But this day was different — an animal ran into the road.
She immediately made the decision to swerve around it, but then her car did a complete 360-degree turn and crashed into a metal gate. The accident knocked her completely unconscious.
Alex has a slight memory of being pulled from the car and hearing it explode a few minutes later, but she has absolutely no idea who pulled her out.
“It was loud. You could hear the glass hit things from like yards away. It was crazy,” Alex says.
The people at the scene told Alex’s parents that a farmer was passing by and made the heroic rescue, but he was gone by the time firefighters arrived. And if he hadn’t, things would have been very different: Alex’s car is now a burned-out shell and the accident happened in a remote location in the middle of farmland.
“That could’ve been her coffin,” says Jenifer Woodard, Alex’s Mom. “Because there is nothing there.”
Because of her guardian angel, Alex’s only injury is a small burn on her arm. She’s also very sore from the waist down, but it could have been so much worse and her family would like to thank the man who saved their daughter.
“I don’t even know his name yet, but I would like to hug his neck, buy him dinner or a beer, whatever he does,” Jenifer said.
