Emily Sadler, 15, was diagnosed with papillary thyroid carcinoma in March 2017. She underwent radiation, surgeries, and the removal of her thyroid.
Emily’s classmates at Raytown High School in Missouri have always admired her positive attitude and incredible spirit, even in the face of such hardship.
On November 13, Emily’s mom, Amy, received an update from her daughter’s medical team: Emily was officially cancer-free.
Amy, who is also the school’s orchestra teacher, wanted to deliver the amazing news in an unexpected way. “I wanted to share with the world that she had finally beat cancer,” she told Inside Edition.
In the tear-jerking clip below, Emily is ushered down the hallway, totally clueless as to what she’d find around the bend. The unsuspecting teen thought she’d just been taken out of class to practice posing for yearbook photos with the rest of the sophomores.
Instead, Emily was met with a collective scream, revealing her diagnosis. She looked closer among the crowd to find her beaming parents, two brothers, grandparents, teachers, and all of her classmates.
Watch the emotional surprise, and keep those tissues close.
