Heroic 3-Year-Old Girl Saves Her Dad’s Life By Using FaceTime

by Angela Andaloro

What started out as a regular 4th of July for the McCabe family quickly turned into a day they would never forget.

Trevor McCabe was home with his two daughters, Maggie and Molly. His wife, Devon, was at work. Trevor was playing with 3-year-old Molly when suddenly he fell off the couch and onto the floor. It took Molly just a few minutes to realize that her dad wasn’t playing with her anymore. Something was wrong.

What the toddler did next was nothing short of miraculous. Molly, who’s not reading quite yet, managed to find her mom’s name in her dad’s phone. She FaceTimed Devon at work, where she is an intensive care nurse.

The panicked toddler showed her mom that her dad was collapsed on the floor and unresponsive. Devon herself was terrified, but she sprung into action, calling neighbors and friends to get help while trying to calm Molly down. Little did the terrified toddler know that what she had just done made all the difference in saving her dad’s life.

The McCabe family is made up of Devon, Trevor, and their girls, Maggie and Molly.

Molly was home with little sister Maggie, 1, and their dad when Trevor collapsed. She got to Trevor’s phone and managed to FaceTime Devon.

Molly turned the phone so Devon could see her husband collapsed on the floor. Devon was understandably shaken by the experience. She told ABC News, “I just started shaking all over from head to toe. Even though I’m an intensive care nurse, I couldn’t even think straight. And Molly kept telling me, ‘Mommy please come home.'”

Devon comforted her distraught 3-year-old while contacting neighbors and friends to get Trevor help. They were able to get him to the hospital quickly.

There, doctors discovered that Trevor had suffered a stroke. A blood clot was discovered in his basilar artery. Of those who have a stroke under these conditions, 85% do not survive, but Trevor was incredibly fortunate.

The road to recovery won’t be easy for the family of four. Trevor had surgery to alleviate the swelling in his brain. He’s made remarkable progress so far. He’s been transferred to a rehab facility, where they’ll work with him to improve his walking and talking, which were impaired by the stroke.

Devon was touched by the outpouring of love and prayers the family has received. She took to Facebook to update everyone on Trevor’s condition and thank them for their support. Despite the difficult bout they’ve been through, she remains positive and optimistic.

A GoFundMe has been set up to support the family, as both Trevor and Devon are taking unpaid leaves of absence from work.

And of course, there’s Molly. The 3-year-old has been loving her superhero outfit, gifted to her by Devon’s coworkers to congratulate her on her quick thinking.

While Molly is all smiles here FaceTiming with her dad, she has naturally been affected by this whole situation. Devon explains that she is “so grateful Molly will grow up knowing she is a hero. The experience last week was obviously very traumatic for her, and I am hopeful that the public praise she is receiving will help her look back on this experience with pride and positivity as opposed to just the fear and anxiety associated with that awful day.” The family is also considering therapy to help the toddler recover from the incident.

Everyone's so proud of Molly's actions!

Many people gave props to Devon and Trevor for teaching the toddler what to do in the event of an emergency.

As much as we don’t want our kids dependent on technology, in this case, being tech-savvy at such a young age turned out to be a critical lifesaving skill.

Above all else, everyone is thrilled that Molly was able to reach her mom at that crucial moment. She truly did save her daddy’s life.

It certainly is a story no one in the McCabe family will ever forget!
