An educator can have a long-lasting impact on a student during his or her early years, whether it be academically or personally.
Teachers like Sonya Romero, who goes above and beyond for her kindergarten students, and this one who inspired one shy student to speak in front of a crowd, have proven time and time again how much one person can change a student’s life.
That was also the case for several teachers from the Riverside school district who discovered the influential role they played in their former students’ lives.
Months before they’d receive their high school diploma, students returned to their elementary schools to give thanks to these teachers who changed their life forever.
The reunions, which are part of a program at California’s Norte Vista High School, also included a letter written from the former student to their teacher of choice. The emotional reunions brought many students and teachers to tears.
One student, Starla Carrillo, remembered her former teacher for always taking students in when they had nowhere to turn.
Another went into greater detail with a letter (read at the below video’s 2:15 mark) that is powerful enough to make you cry. It proves just how much of a difference an educator can make in a child’s life.
“It truly takes a village to graduate our students,” said Norte Vista High School’s ASB Director Keala Hughes. “We want all teachers to be a part of this, and so that’s why we do it.”
