Flat mops are incredible — after years of using a regular mop and feeling like my floor was actually getting dirtier, I finally switched to a flat mop and I couldn’t be happier with it.

The only problem is that the mop pads seem to get dirty so quickly! I love seeing that the mop pad has really picked up all the dirt and grime from my floor, but I know I’m not helping the environment — or my bank account — when I toss a dirty mop pad and buy another.

I know reusable mop covers are out there, but I don’t want to have to spend a pretty penny to get one. And now I don’t have to — instead, I’ll just make my own.

The video below shows the super simple way to make a DIY mop cover out of items I already have in my house: old T-shirts and hot glue.

And it’s machine washable! This is an ideal solution for anyone with a flat mop who wants a cheap, easy mop cover alternative.

Check out the video and instructions below to learn how to make one of your own!

  1. Pick out an old shirt that you want to repurpose.
  2. Measure an area 10 inches longer and one inch wider than your mop.
  3. Cut out the piece of fabric.
  4. Sew or hot-glue the excess fabric to form pockets.
  5. Slip the mop into the cover.

If you have kids, grandkids, or pets running around, this mop cover will be a godsend. And if you wear it out, you can just make another one!
