Scoop Globs Of Red And Yellow Batter In Pan, Then Grab Spatula To Create A Swirly Cake

by Jess Catcher
Jess grew up in Oklahoma before moving to New York to become a writer. She has a cat named Agnes.

I’ve never been too impressive when it comes to whipping up a cake for a special occasion. I pretty much always stick to whatever boxed options I can find at my grocery store.

That said, I don’t think even I could mess up this fun idea for a treat — from the Cake Boss himself, Buddy Valastro!

The baker shared this beautiful “swirl cake” design with Rachael Ray while visiting her studio, along with fellow guest Nick Cannon.

All you need is food coloring to transform ordinary cake batter — whether you make it from scratch or rely on the box like me — into bright shades of your choice. Then you just plop a few “globs,” as Buddy refers to them, inside your pan before using a spatula to create the marble-like effect.

Although Nick struggles a bit to make his “globber” work, Buddy makes a good point when he suggests how this design is such a cinch that even your kids or grandkids would have no trouble lending a hand in the kitchen.

I also love how if you frost this before showing it off to your friends and family, you’ll get to see the surprise on their face when they slice into it and discover the sneaky design!

Take a look to also see just how fast Buddy is when it comes to finishing off his own layers of cake.

And don’t forget to SHARE with your friends!
