As we get into the thick of summer fun, many people flock to the beach with their families to enjoy the waves and the sunshine.

For Argentinian swimmers, in Monte Hermoso, a relaxing day at the beach turned into a rescue mission on January 21, 2017.

Lifeguards noticed someone struggling in the harsh waves of the ocean and immediately jumped into action and dove into the water to help. Unfortunately, the current was so rough that it was hard for them to pull the person to the safety of the shore.

As you’ll see in the clip below, a few minutes in, swimmers noticed the lifeguards struggling, so they put their own lives on the line to help. Many swam out to where the lifeguards were trying to get the swimmer back to shore and offered their assistance.

Not too long after, more and more brave bystanders got into the rough water to hold hands and form a human chain to assist the lifeguards in rescuing the distressed swimmer.

After a grueling eight minutes fighting the waves and trying to swim back to the shore, the lifeguards and beachgoers successfully brought the swimmer to shore.

It’s always amazing to see a group of people stop what they’re doing to come together to help others — especially when they put their own life at risk to save someone. All of these people deserve the clapping they received after getting back to land.
