The bond between a therapy dog and a human companion is one of the strongest connections of love and support on the planet, which is what makes it all the more heartbreaking for those who unfortunately have to say goodbye to their canine best friend.
Virginia-native Chris Jackson clearly thought of his pup, Jake, as part of his family. When the service animal who had been by his side for over 14 years required expensive veterinary procedures last year, Chris reached out to his community to help make that happen for his buddy.
Sadly, Jake passed away recently, leaving Chris completely shattered by the loss of his biggest source of comfort and care.
“I get up and cry every morning.,” he explains through tears in the video below. “I was so used to him being the first thing I saw, the first thing that I touched.”
Then, adding insult to injury, Chris discovered just how frustrating the process for finding a new therapy dog would be — including years of waiting and spending thousands of dollars.
Without any other options, Chris made a public plea for someone to help him cut through the red tape to finally have a new fluffy friend in his home. He assumed that was the reason the news crew showed up to talk about Jake and hopefully inspire a kind stranger to reach out and help Chris.
What he didn’t realize? Someone was already on their way to surprise him with a new therapy dog.
Take a look to see the moment he meets his new best friend and be sure to SHARE the emotional surprise with your loved ones!
