Kyu San Juan, a 5-year-old boy from Wisconsin, suffered a seizure that left him incapacitated in 2017.

Doctors discovered that Kyu was born with cerebral arteriovenous malformation, which causes an abnormal connection between the arteries and veins in the brain.

In June 2019, Kyu was set to undergo his second brain surgery. On the night before his surgery, Kyu was getting ready for bed when he declared his one and only presurgery request …

He told his mom he wanted to go dancing at the local grocery store — and he wanted his beloved grandfather to join him.

Kyu’s mom, Rasami, told him and his grandfather (who was visiting from out of town) to get into the car. She described in a Facebook post how the late-night dance party came about once they arrived at Festival Foods:

Grandpa: Do you guys need to buy something?

Kyu: No grandpa, we dance here in the groceries store.

Grandpa: Here? People are going to think we’re crazy!

Kyu: People? What people?

Grandpa: I thought we were going to a party or a club.

Kyu: Grandpa, Use your imagination. You can dance anywhere!

Rasami says Kyu’s surgery went “better than doctors had anticipated.”
