Approximately 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide every year. Of those, approximately 3.9 million are dogs, of which 1.2 million are euthanized, according to the ASPCA. These staggering facts prove that it’s important to adopt rescue animals.

Best Friends Animal Society, in collaboration with PetSmart Charities, and more than 30 rescue groups and shelters presented a three-day pet adoption event in White Plains, NY that featured approximately 700 dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, and bunnies available for adoption. During the event, many pets were finally able to find their forever homes, and the touching moments were all captured on camera!

The adorable video features several highlights from the event, including a young girl, who just adopted her first puppy.

She’s so sweet with he pup, and completely overjoyed, as she talked to the adoption volunteers about how much she loves the dog.

Later, at the 2:57 mark, there’s an older woman who instantly falls in love with a collie-mix. As the dog calmly sits on her lap, the women knows she’s ready to make this pup a permanent part of the family.

“We walked up to her cage and she just insisted that we stop and pet her,” the woman recalls. “We’re going to take her home.”
