The students at P.S. 52 Elementary School in Queens, New York, were all smiles as they received backpacks full of much-needed school supplies to get them going for the new school year.

The organization behind the good deed is the Kids in Need Foundation.  This organization says its mission is to ensure that every child is prepared to learn and succeed in the classroom by providing free school supplies nationally to students most in need.

When students have new school supplies, their grades, classroom behavior, and even engagement improve. It’s also beneficial to their self-esteem and overall attitude toward school to have what they need and to feel prepared for the day ahead.

In this video, the students at P.S. 52 were about to experience that firsthand.

Though they didn’t know what was in store for them, they waited patiently. It all happened as the students made their way into the auditorium and were seated. The students were clearly anxious to find out what their surprise was. Staff and students began to count down to the moment that would make their day.

Finally, the moment they were all waiting for came as the curtains opened. There were many jumps and shouts of joy. Each child was gifted with a bag, and the kids showed how grateful they were as they accepted.

Watch this big surprise and the big reactions from an auditorium full of very happy elementary school students with their new backpacks.
