Last summer, a Chicago high school student named Shea decided to use her final independent studies project to tell those around her how beautiful they are and filmed their reactions.
The stunning video touched countless hearts, as it spread across the web with its uplifting message. Each surprised face and smile she inspired with her simple words motivated others to follow in the talented youngster’s footsteps.
However, for this version from El Dorado, AR, it’s the teachers who take a turn standing behind the camera. Though most students would be reluctant to talk to their teachers for fear of being in some sort of trouble, these kids had nothing to worry about when their instructors walked up to them.
Instead of dolling out detention, the teachers explain to the teens just how important they are to them and how much they enjoy having them in class. “You’re one of the reasons that I want to come to school every day,” they say to the smiling faces staring back at them. In a world where negativity seems to creep around every corner, this display of positive reinforcement puts a smile on my face, too!
The purpose of the project was to remind teachers how much their students care about what they say to them and how that can help them grow into successful young adults. After all, education is about more than the red pen markings on essays or the amount of tardy slips piling up each day.
