Roland Brady named his truck “Sparrow,” and the reason why was actually pretty startling.
“I got to my first job site. There was a dead sparrow in the grill that I must’ve hit driving,” the geologist recalled. “[The] truck didn’t have a name yet, and I thought, ‘OK, that’s it — Sparrow’s the name.'”
The truck’s name may have come at a price, but Roland loved Sparrow.
“This is my livelihood,” he said of the truck. So when it was stolen, he was devastated.
Sparrow was taken right off his street at home. Roland called the authorities and put up a notice on social media.
“I wasn’t real optimistic I’d get it back,” he said sadly.
Unbeknownst to him, though, there was somebody watching his back. Whoever had stolen Sparrow had left it parked in the neighborhood of Dan Aderholt.
That was a mistake.
“I walk this [neighborhood] all hours of the night. I know what cars belong here and what cars don’t,” Dan explained.
A member of the neighborhood watch, Dan had made it his mission to patrol the area. So when he saw Sparrow, he knew something wasn’t right. He remembered seeing something about a similar truck online — he’d seen Roland’s post — so he contacted the authorities.
Within a day, Roland had Sparrow back!
