If you have a dog of your own, or even if you just happen to be well acquainted with one, then you know that they are some of the sweetest and most affectionate animals around.

It can be pretty hard to comprehend any circumstance where someone might want to hurt such a sweet and precious animal, but tragically, it happens more often than I would like to believe, whether as a result of outright abuse or simple neglect.

Fortunately, there are plenty of wonderful dog-lovers out there doing everything they can to help protect animals in vulnerable situations, like this incredible army vet who saved a pit bull from abuse. For every animal-abuser out there, there are two wonderful guardian angels look out for our animal companions.

And this week, a Florida state trooper earned his own guardian angel wings, after arriving at the scene of an accident, and discovering a tiny miracle by the side of the road. Like these bikers who discovered a chewed-up crate by the side of the road, observant state trooper Bob Ray spotted a tiny puppy, abandoned when his original owner fled the scene of a hit-and-run.

The little guy, a pit bull/German shepherd mix, appears to be in perfectly good health, and has been very friendly and affectionate to his rescuers! He spent the night in the care of Officer Ray, and has now been placed with a foster family until he finds his forever home.
