Soldier Returns Home After 3 Months In Boot Camp, Then Her Deaf Senior Dog Can’t Stop Smiling

One thing that I can always look forward to when I go back home to Florida is how excited my senior dog, Pennie-Lane, gets when she sees me. Even in her old age, she has a little pep in her step when she hears my voice after being separated for months.

Just like my senior dog, Army private Hannah Foraker’s deaf pet Buddy was so excited to see her owner on March 14, 2016. Hannah had been in basic training for three months before she could go back home to visit her 13-year-old dog.

While the senior dog moves slowly, her tail wags with excitement and she whines as Hannah talks to her.

“Aw, you’re so happy!” Hannah says as she pets her pooch. “You’re so happy!” Then, she pats her leg with her hand, and Buddy puts her paw on Hannah’s palm!

“I missed you so much,” the soldier tells her dog. I’m sure if Buddy could speak, she’d be saying the same thing! Her senior dog even knocks her head into Hannah as if to tell her to keep petting her ears.

It’s always so heartwarming to see the bond between dogs and owners, like this dog who leaped into the air when his soldier dad came home, or this sad dog who instantly became happy when his dad walked into the door!
