An amazing reunion was recorded at an elementary school in Appleton, Wisconsin, when a soldier disguised herself as a mascot to surprise her son.
According to the USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin, Sergeant Jen Sabrowsky with the Wisconsin Army National Guard had been overseas on deployment since April 2017 and wanted to surprise her son, Jake, with her return.
She contacted Jake’s principal, Andrea Vinje, to coordinate the big surprise. Andrea told the USA TODAY NETWORK-Wisconsin that it was one of the most memorable moments of her career.
The surprise was simple: Sergeant Jen dressed up as the school mascot, walked into the cafeteria, and sat down at Jake’s table.
The video below begins the moment she takes her seat at the table. Jake and the other kids — all of them completely unaware of who’s really behind the disguise — just laugh at her presence.
And I can’t blame them! A person dressed as a giant jaguar and sitting at a cafeteria table would be a pretty funny sight for a kid.
But then, the sergeant removed her mascot head, and Jake’s jaw dropped. He screamed “Mom!” before running as fast as he could around the table to her.
“He was coming in hot!” Sergeant Jen said.
