Sgt. Scott Cartwright, a National Guardsman from Adams County, Ohio, finally returned home after a six-month deployment.
The Guardsman, a member of the 121st Refueling Wing, joined his other 11 comrades on a plane home to John Glenn International Airport on April 17, 2017.
Awaiting Sgt. Cartwright were his wife Elizabeth, his daughter Nora, and a new special person.
“When he left, we were just a family of 3!” Elizabeth recalled.
The mom was waiting for her husband with the newest member of their family, 4-month-old daughter Jacqueline “Jax” Eloise.
Sgt. Cartwright had never met his newest daughter in person — he had been deployed for over two months when Elizabeth gave birth.
When he saw his wife holding their two kids, he almost couldn’t contain his tears.
“It was overwhelming. I still haven’t wrapped my head around it yet,” said the Guardsman. “What I did was easy compared to what Elizabeth and my girls went through. I had one thing to do over there and that’s all I had to do, and she’s been alone with Nora and my new girl Jax.”
And though Sgt. Cartwright still has to be in process on base while he’s back home, he is definitely clear on what he wants to do afterward.
“I just want to spend time with my family. I don’t care what we do, I just want to be together.”
