Jon Toone, a 37-year-old husband and father who served as a specialist in the US Army Reserve, went outside to do some yardwork. While working on his land, Jon was stung by three wasps. He began struggling to breathe and his heart felt like it was beating out of his chest.

Jon ended up collapsing at a neighbor’s house. He had already called his wife, Abby, who rushed to be by his side while frantically calling 911.

By the time emergency personnel could reach him, Jon had passed away in Abby’s arms.

Abby was suddenly thrust into life as a grieving widow and single mother to their four young children, who are all under the age of 10. The cosmetologist struggled to pay the bills and put food on the table while she waited for the settlement from Jon’s life insurance policy.

The first Christmas without Jon was fast approaching. Abby could barely buy all their necessary groceries, let alone Christmas presents for the kids.

What Abby didn’t know was that an anonymous donor, looking to spread some holiday cheer, knew about Abby’s story and immediately wanted to help. The folks at EastIdahoNews.com showed up at her home to surprise her and her family with a much-needed holiday gift — and it was enough to bring them to tears.
