Mason jars can be used for a variety of different things, but when it comes to desserts, these glass containers can work wonders.

We’ve introduced you to the easiest cherry pie recipe ever with the help of one of these beloved jars. We’ve also shown you how a Mason jar can help you make whipped cream in just seven minutes. The latter might sound hard to believe, but it’s certainly true!

The below recipe, shared by Jessica Merchant from HowSweetEats.com, is another delicious treat made inside a Mason jar. Just looking at the photos alone is enough to make your mouth water. They will probably also make you want to try this dessert the next chance you get.

There may be an abundance of ingredients required for this specific dessert, but according to the recipe maker, Jessica Merchant, “it is actually really easy!”

1. Get the crust ready

As you preheat the oven to 350 degrees, make sure you have the below ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups graham cracker crumbs
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • a pinch of salt

Then, as recipe maker Jessica Merchant explains: “Melt butter and mix in graham crumbs and salt. Mix until moistened. Spray 4 mason jars with non-stick spray and press graham crust into jars.”

For the cake part, you’ll need:

  • 1 1/8 cups all purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup dark cocoa powder
  • 1 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup + 1 Tbsp heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons sour cream
  • 1 bag of large marshmallows for the topping

“In a bowl, whisk egg and sugar until smooth and no lumps remain. Add milk, cream, butter and vanilla, and mix until combined. Stir in sour cream. Sift dry ingredients together and add to wet mixture. Mix until batter is smooth,” Merchant says.

Then add the mixture to the mason jars and place them in a baking dish. Add approximately 1 1/2 cups of water and bake for 30 minutes!

3. Marshmallow time

3. Marshmallow time

“Remove cake from the oven and press large marshmallows down on top, being careful not to burn yourself,” Merchant says. “Heat the broiler on your oven and watching carefully, brown marshmallows for about 1–2 minutes, or until golden brown. Do not take your eyes off them! Serve immediately.”

4. Enjoy!
