Tanya Estes was stunned by her smile makeover in the mirror. The Boise, Idaho, woman had received the procedure, which typically costs $60,000, entirely for free.
Out of 400 total applicants, the Boise Oral Surgery and Dental Implant Center selected her.
“Its such a big emotion — I cant really explain,” said Tanya. “It actually took a while for it to set in. The last call, a couple days ago: ‘just confirming your appointment.’ And I am like, ‘Oh my gosh, this is real.’”
Before having the new teeth implanted, Tanya first had to have all of her dead and decaying teeth removed. Her specialist, Dr. Bobst, added:
“I think it’s going to be a game changer in the sense that, you know, you’re withdrawn; you don’t really show your teeth or your smile; or you are kinda hesitant. And I think it’s going to be an instant boost of confidence, an instant ability to eat and chew and function.”
Still loopy from the anesthesia after the procedure, Tanya finally caught a glimpse of herself in the mirror once she’d received her new smile. She was nearly speechless.
“It’s exciting. It’s going to be weird, because most of the pictures around my house are generic pictures, so now, there is actually going to be pictures,” she said. It’s going to be fun.”
After years of shying away from the camera, Tanya is now having professional photos taken with her family for the very first time. It’s about “being more confident,” said Tanya, “not having to shy away.”
