2 Sisters Dedicate Lives To Training Dogs To Become Service Animals For Those In Need

Sisters Lorette Vanourny and Sherry Steine Ross started Deafinitely Dogs! as a way to give back to people who are hearing impaired or deaf by training dogs as service animals to assist them in their daily activities.

“I’ve trained dogs my entire life,” Lorette says. “I always said if I won the Power Ball, I would start a service dog organization,” Sherry says. She adds she hasn’t won, but that didn’t stop her from starting her organization.

Now, the two sisters have expanded the company to help even more people in need in a wide range of services.

“We focus on autism dogs, diabetic alert dogs, hearing notification dogs, psychiatric service dogs, and PTSD dogs,” Sherry says.

Each dog goes through a two-year program that trains them for a specific need.

“Having an assistance dog can change a person’s life,” the company writes on its site. “These dogs provide their person greater independence, unconditional love, and companionship.”

The company is a non-profit organization that provides the service dogs at no cost to approved applicants. Among these amazing service dog is a Goldendoodle named Leo who is more than ready to get to work as a psychiatric service dog.

His owner Addy, a young girl with anxiety, says with only a few weeks together Leo is already doing a great job helping her. “He can already sense my anxiety a little bit,” she says.
