In 2012, Dean Berckenhoff and his fiancée Monica suddenly lost Dean’s oldest son, 11-year-old Colton, in a freak accident.

The grieving couple from Willis, Texas, decided to donate Colton’s organs. His heart went to a then 20-year-old man who had been in and out of the hospital for most of his life.

Travis Stufflebean was born with a bad heart and had already had five open-heart surgeries. He was placed on the transplant list … and three months later, he received Colton’s heart.

According to the American Transplant Foundation:

“Almost 114,000 people in the United States are currently on the waiting list for a lifesaving organ transplant. Another name is added to the national transplant waiting list every 10 minutes. On average, 20 people die every day from the lack of available organs for transplant.”

Seven years after Colton’s death, Monica and Dean — who have been together for 10 years and have two other children — celebrated their anniversary by finally tying the knot at their county courthouse. Their guests were so excited as they filed into their seats, and the ceremony soon commenced.

But just before the county judge pronounced Monica and Dean as husband and wife, Monica’s sister unexpectedly raised her hand to make an objection …
