Family Adopts 146-Pound Lab Who Can’t Even Play Fetch And Helps Him Lose Almost Half His Weight

Like people, dogs love to eat. However, unlike people, dogs usually do not know when to stop.

That’s why Shiloh, the chocolate Lab, ballooned to over 146 pounds when his previous owners failed to limit his food intake.

Luckily, his new family was up to the task of trimming Shiloh down when they decided to adopt him. Photographer Heidi Fiore from Massachusetts spotted a plea for help on Facebook and agreed to take him in.

Heidi admits that even the vet was shocked by his sheer size when she first took Shiloh in for a checkup. As a breed, Labradors are especially prone to obesity. However, the average male Lab should weigh 65 to 80 pounds, according to the American Kennel Club.

The Fiores immediately put Shiloh on an exercise and diet plan. He was allowed two scoops of diet dog food and some vegetables on the side. Shiloh also went for walks, although he had trouble making it more than a quarter of a mile at first.

The Labrador was able to shed 8 pounds in just the first two weeks. His weight loss continued, and he gained energy with every pound he lost.

Heidi says that Shiloh is still obsessed with food, but he now weighs a lean 85 pounds. What’s even more important is that Shiloh can now participate in fun doggy activities like fetch and walks on the beach.
