On Christmas Eve 2017, Bonnie and Stuart Parker came back to their Dallas home to see it had been burglarized.
The couple estimated that $10,000 in property was stolen, including jewelry, a laptop, and televisions. But there was only one thing the couple really wanted back: their 8-month-old shih tzu, Zane.
“I loved him,” Stuart told WFAA at the time of the theft.
The couple hired a private investigator and put signs around town with a huge $5,000 reward. Weeks went by, and the shih tzu was nowhere to be found. “We had gotten cynical, and a little bit hopeless,” Bonnie told WFAA.
Just one day shy of a month after Zane was stolen, the family received a call. It wasn’t their PI who had found the shih tzu — but a mom!
“It was a lady, saying, ‘I think I have your dog,’” Bonnie said. “She said, ‘I have two children. I have to find someone to watch my children — but I’ll go see if I can catch it.’”
After the microchip confirmed it was Zane, Bonnie wanted to surprise Stuart, a criminal defense lawyer, with the good news. In the footage below, Bonnie recorded her hubby’s emotional reaction when he came home from work.
