It’s difficult to compare anything else to the bond between a mother and her newborn child because there is truly no other experience like it in life.
After housing an unborn baby for 9 months, we’ve seen how important a mother’s touch is for a newborn through incredible stories like this one about Kate Ogg and one of her twins who was born dead. You can’t deny that the human connection can do some pretty amazing things, but I’ve never heard anything quite as miraculous or moving as the following story about a North Carolina mother brought back to life by her newborn child.
September 5th, 2014 was supposed to be one of the happiest days of Shelly Ann Cawley’s life. The then-23-year-old woman underwent an emergency C-section to give birth to her baby girl, but instead, it became a day Shelly and her family will never forget for a much scarier reason. While under anesthesia, the new mother fell into a coma after a blood clot in her leg broke loose during surgery and shot straight to her lungs.
Jeremy Cawley’s daughter Rylan was born healthy, but he feared he was losing his wife, as doctors rushed to try to revive Shelly. That’s when the clever nurses decided to strip down mom and her baby to give them skin-to-skin contact. They encouraged baby Rylan to cry as loud as possible to wake up her mother and after about 10 minutes, a miracle happened. Delivery room Nurse Ashley Manus told Inquisitr, “We could see a spike in her vitals on the monitor. We knew that somewhere in there she was hearing her baby. Rylan saved her mom’s life.”
Baby Rylan Cawley was born healthy via emergency C-section on September 5th, 2014, but what followed was a true nightmare turned absolute miracle.
Shelly Cawley fell into a coma when a blood clot believed to be weighted down by the baby broke and quickly shot to her lungs, filling them with liquid.
Nurse Ashley Manus suggested putting the naked newborn on her mother's chest in hopes that skin-to-skin contact and the babies cries would wake up Shelly.
After about 10 minutes of gently tickling Rylan to induce tears, Shelly heard her newborn's cry and woke up.
One year after nearly losing her life, Cawley poses with 1-year-old Rylan for People magazine, saying "I just look at her now and think of the amazing bond we have. I can tell her when she grows up that she saved my life."
